Gemix Slot from Play'n Go

It seems online slot game developers have been developing brightly colored Tetris themed games a lot lately. We’ve seen Net Entertainment’s Starburst, IGT’s Bejeweled, and Cubis by Cryptologic. The popular format can be seen once again in the new online video slot recently released by Play’n Go called Gemix. I think part of the reason for the popularity of the Tetris style theme is possibly due to the enormous success of the Candy Crush Saga, the highly addictive free to play mobile game. I suppose software developers must be thinking, no need to ‘re-invent’ the wheel, let’s just put a spin on it.

7X7 Format and Crystal Charge Meter

The spin on the ‘Tetris/Candy Crush’ theme in the Gemix slot is that it is set in a far far away fantasy land. The other unique element is that the game is played on a 7×7 grid rather than the 5 reels we see in most online video slots. Match up 5 of the same color crystal gem symbols and you will have a winning combination. Matched symbols disappear and are removed from the bottom after the spin as new ones fall into place. If you happen to land 20 or more winning symbol combinations, the Crystal Charge Meter activates to drop special symbols (Nova Blast, Crystal Warp, Light Beam, and Chain Lightning) on the reels giving you an added bonus. Get really lucky and land 40, then the Crystal Charge Meter really lights up with wins multiplied by 3!

Bonus Progression

The Gemix Slot, as with Candy Crush, is played through a progression of levels, or “Worlds.” There are three of them and in each world is a different wild symbol- miner’s lamps, lollipop, and 8 sticky wild spell books. The wilds substitute for all other symbols.

Summary

Well, it goes without saying that if you’re a fan of Candy Crush, Cubis, or Bejeweled, chances are, you’ll also enjoy playing Gemix. We personally feel this theme is being copied a few too many times, however, they have atleast made some decent tweaks with the format and the wilds in each level. You can’t go wrong if you’re looking to fill some time with your online slot play.
